Suspension bridges : useful information

The first forms of suspension bridge appeared in China in the 1st century AD. A cable-supported suspension bridge is a metal structure whose deck is attached by cables to a flexible structure, the ends of which are connected to the bridge abutments on the banks. Unlike all other bridges, suspension bridges exert horizontal traction on their point of support.

Most suspension bridges are spectacular works of art that span dizzying abysses. Their lightweight constructions are inexpensive and blend perfectly into the landscape. Each excursion becomes a special moment, provoking unforgettable sensations in those who cross them.  You feel like you’re flying between heaven and earth, with a certain apprehension mixed with fear and vertigo.
