Departure
After the Clair-de-Lune restaurant in the Mayens de Conthey, follow the road to Incron for 2.5 km to the junction of the chemin de la Montagne and park the vehicle there.
Itinerary
From the vehicle, go down the road for 200 meters to reach a forest road upstream (right, dead end road indication) and go up this road until you reach the first bend. In the middle of the hairpin, go straight on a not very marked forest path that you follow for about 150 meters. This path joins the Lodze path (mountain road). Continue uphill along the impressive walls of Sex (Ché) Riond. After 2.5 km of ascent, the route joins a corridor equipped with fixed ropes (indication Sex Riond, Chaux d’Aire) 70 meters long for 63 meters of elevation gain (athletic and spectacular) which leads to a magnificent alpine meadow. Descend following the path that heads west to the fork to reach the summit of Sex Riond (easy, east direction, indication). After admiring the panorama, retrace your steps heading due west to reach the Ayroz hut and Chaux d’Aïre. Continue following the chemin d’Aïre until the junction of the chemin de la Montagne, which you follow downhill to the starting point.
Useful information
Wonderful hike. The first climb is mainly in the coolness of the forest. The panorama from the top of Sex Riond is sumptuous. The place is also ideal for an extended break and picnic. The return from the summit of Sex Riond crosses alpine meadows with magnificent panoramas. Possibility to eat at the Ayroz hut.
