Tips for your hike

Prepare your walk with timetables, the main crossing points and any difficulty.

If you are using public transport, leave plenty of time for the return journey. Reserve your place in the refuges if you intend to spend the night there.

If you are accompanied by children aged 12 and under, add 50% to the basic timetable. On the way up, the children walk in front and follow you on the way down, always keeping a close eye on their movements.

Beware of the weather: in the valley bottoms and above a certain altitude, the changes are sudden and the storms very violent. Fatigue can easily cause you to stumble, especially on the way back and downhill.

Calculating walking time is a highly controversial subject in the hiking world. Everyone has their own estimate, depending on their level. On this site, walking times are calculated according to the following rules: on the ascent, 300 m per hour; on the descent, 600 m per hour and counting on the flat, 4 km per hour.

The surface of the course influences the walking time. You don’t walk at the same pace on a wide, flat road or on a rough path.
